BURLINGTON, VT --- J.C. Menna, Deyvi Jimenez and Ryan Dull combined to toss the first no-hitter in Vermont Lake Monsters history in a 2-0 victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats in New York-Penn League action Saturday night at historic Centennial Field.

Menna, who was 0-9 with a 5.08 ERA entering the game, was facing a ValleyCats team that led the league in hitting with a .278 average. He retired the first seven batters he faced before a one-out walk in the third. He also worked around a leadoff walk in the fifth before pitching out of a major jam in the sixth with Vermont leading 2-0. A walk, an error and another walked loaded the bases with one out, but Menna induced a 4-6-3 double play from Mike Cokinos to end the inning.

Deyvi Jimenez relieved Menna to start the seventh and retired six of the seven batters he faced, allowing only a two-out walk in the seventh, while striking out three. Dull worked a 1-2-3 ninth with a groundout and two strikeouts to secure his fourth save of the season. Along with being the firs no-hitter in 1,421 Vermont games all-time, it was also the third shutout for the Lake Monsters in the last five games after none over the first 67 games.

Vermont got its only two runs of the game in the fourth off Tri-City starter Juri Perez (2-2), who allowed six hits with no walks and six strikeouts over seven innings. Three straight one-out singles from Chris Bostick, Jacob Tanis and Bruce Maxwell scored Bostick to give the Lake Monsters a 1-0 lead. Daniel Robertson then plated Tanis with a sacrifice squeeze bunt to first base.

Brett Vertigan went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 15 games (23-for-63, .365), while Tanis was 2-for-3 and is 10-for-19 (.526) over his last six games. The victory was the Lake Monsters fourth in the last five games after a nine-game losing streak and improved Vermont (31-41) to 21-13 at Centennial Field with four home games remaining.
